This year, I made no New Year’s resolutions during New Year’s. Some big changes happened, and I really needed to pad myself with a few weeks’ worth of time before I could wrap my mind around goals.
This blog became little more than a sporadic tap of the “Reblog” button — which is fine for a Tumblog, but I’d really like to show some neat things instead of only regurgitating stuff that’s gone around the Interwebs. So, now, long after New Year’s, I’m working on my resolve to post more neat things.
Here’s a first neat thing:

It’s a sweater vest made by my grandma about 25 years ago. My mom found it and showed me when we were talking about crafts/skills that people no longer learn due to lack of need.

My grandma learned to knit and sew all on her own (the need was high!), so I find it amazing that she knocked out these cool deer with the intarsia technique. I love that some deer have way thicker necks than others; the imperfection is wonderful!

Since Grandma was self-taught, she had this haphazard way of approaching things — like not prescribing to the logical “measure twice, cut once” approach. She never really measured at all, actually, just kind of eye-balled. That’s probably the reason why this vest, made for a three-year-old, fits the adult me pretty nicely.

Still, I love it. Thank you, Grandma!
