Stream of consciousness
See if you can follow my train of thought today (I’m paraphrasing in all instances):
1. Eat a kiwi after my morning run. Notice how the seeds surround a whitish center throughout the fruit. Make mental note to research kiwi.
2. Find out that kiwis are officially kiwifruit, but that name is actually a marketing strategy. It was renamed in the 1950s because the original — Chinese gooseberry — didn’t slide off the tongue as well. (Read more here.)
3. Stumble onto a page about the kiwi bird by mistake. Read enough of it to wonder what a “keeled sternum” is. Learn that keeled sterna give flying birds enough structural leverage for flapping wings in flight. Kiwis, a flightless bird (part of the ratites), have no keeled sternum. (Read more here.)
4. Conclude that b[ird]log is an amazing blog. Puffins vs. penguins? Check. Maceration? Check. Funny storytelling? Check. Cuckoo eggs that creepily look like eggs of other birds? Check check check! Inner nerd does a little dance on the spot. Hope your day went well!
