I feel like since the holidays onward, it’s been a frenzy of museums and art shows.
Eric and I went to the Murakami show at the Geffen Contemporary right before the New Year. (I was regretabbly oblivious and missed Superflat a few years ago. At the time, the research I was doing for a Yoshitomo Nara essay repeatedly referred to Superflat, almost without end. So it was with great anticipation that I finally went to see ©Murakami.)
We also went to the Peterson Automotive Museum. I have no interest in cars whatsoever, but the craftsmanship and hand-lettering that comes with the territory never fail to knock my socks off. Keep checking my Flickr for photos.
While in the Petersen neighborhood, I noticed all the Dalí banners for LACMA on Wilshire. But, as I know so little about him, I didn’t have any interest to go. Had I known that Dalí was the designer of the Chupa Chups logo, I would have felt differently. (Internet Research has yet to provide me with satisfactory information regarding Dalí’s design work.) And of course—the day that I realized I had to see Dalí’s work was the day that the show ended. So it looks like I’ll have to wait until the next time I go to Florida to see his work at the St. Petersburg museum.
One upcoming show that I want to make plans for is Justin’s Guariglia’s photos of Shaolin Temple. I saw his photography on Aperature last month (via kottke.org). So, it was a nice surprise to get a mailer for his show in the mail—it’s going to be at Otis College.
